Sustainability is important at Inman School. In light of this we are consciously making an effort to reduce the amount of trash and recycling our school is producing. We would like to encourage all families to pack a waste-free lunch. Making this green step with your child may take some work in the beginning, but every small step can become a daily habit and leave a lighter footprint on this earth.
Here are the basics you need to know about a waste-free lunch:
What’s In:
•Cloth napkins
•Stainless-steel cutlery
•Food-storage containers
•Re-usable sandwich and snack baggies
•Re-useable Lunch bags
•Water bottles (BPA-free, of course!)
What’s Out:
•Paper napkins
•Plastic cutlery
•Individual-portion packaging (i.e. yogurt, granola bars, and applesauce.)
•Sandwiches and snacks in plastic baggies
•Brown bags and other disposable lunch bags
•Disposable juice boxes, water bottles and milk cartons
With a waste-free lunch, food items can be bought in larger quantities. There is less packaging and it can be left at home for reuse or recycling. Waste-free lunches are not only a wise environmental choice, but they are less expensive as well.
