Information Evening for Parents of Children with Disabilities and Diverse Abilities on February 8 at Alpha Secondary. As you process registrations, please invite any parents who have identified as parents of children with disabilities or diverse abilities to this information evening. We know that it takes time to process registrations so you may also want to post the information on your websites or on your parent information bulletin boards. See attached.
As you become aware of new Kindergarten students with disabilities, please ask the parents for the applicable diagnostic reports and stay in contact with your school psychologist so they can sign off on the designations. Your DLST will also connect with you about students with disabilities who have registered and those we are expecting based on information from the Center for Ability and other partner organizations.
In April, we will be collecting information about the new and current students with disabilities through our Low Incidence Review process. More information to follow.
Beginning in May, the DLSTs will help to lead intake meetings for new kindergarten students with more complex needs. At these meetings, you will be able to collect information to create a transitional IEP to start the school year.
If you have any questions about the transition process for students with disabilities and diverse abilities, please feel free to reach out to us.
